ReallyEasyReader includes eight texts for speed reading practice that flashes words in the middle of the computer screen. The program does not have exercises or lessons. You can practice speed reading with the included texts, copy and paste text, or download other documents. You can also manually adjust the reading speed to a comfortable level or use a low speed and download documents appropriate for children.
The program focuses on two main speed reading strategies: ReadStart and Flicker. ReadStart flashes words at a normal reading speed, and then doubles the speed every ten seconds. This is supposed to work as a warm–up exercise to prepare you for speed–reading practice. Flicker quickly flashes a blank screen between each flashed word, which is supposed to help you determine that the word has changed.
We tried both of these strategies and determined that Flicker is the same flashing technique used by other programs and ReadStart aggravated our readers more than it prepared them for speed reading practice.
ReallyEasyReader includes a user guide and you can contact them through email; however, they did not reply to our questions.
